Southern Sierra Council is a local council of the Boy Scouts of America and serves Kern, Inyo, and Mono counties in California. See also Scouting in California.

History Edit

Founded in 1919 as the Bakersfield Council, it changed its name to the Kern County Council in 1921, and then to the Southern Sierra Council in 1965.

Districts Edit

Each District coordinates scout leader training. activities and other resources for community based scouting programs. This council is divided into 2 Districts:

  1. Desert SSC District
  2. Meridian SSC District
  3. Pathfinder SSC District
  4. Trailblazer SSC District

Council Camps Edit

Southern Sierra Council Camps feature many resources for organizing exciting outdoor adventure group activities and are available for rental by scout groups, families and other youth groups. Some camps feature an organized week long campership program during summer months.

  1. Camp Kern is a Boy Scout summer camp owned and operated by the Southern Sierra Council. Camp Kern is located along the south eastern shore of Huntington Lake in the Sierra National Forest in Fresno County, California.

Order of the Arrow Edit
